So it’s finally December ? Oh how I’ve waited for this month! I cleaned my home for Christmas (in that flu I had, I really shouldn’t have though), put up so much decorations here, and now I’m typing this post with Christmas songs on the background, and soon my friend will come over. We’ll have some wine and order food. Perfect Friday night. And I will show my christmassy home later! But now let’s get into the subject: first post of the DIY-series. The chunky blanket. I’m so in love with it, so cozy and cute.
Vihdoin joulukuu, voi miten oonkaan odottanut tätä vuoden päätöstä, joulunodotusta. ?
So how do you do it? Knit with your arms! I started creating the stitches the same way you do when you traditionally knit with sticks. (Sorry if my vocabulary is completely wrong!) I created 15 stitches, but you can basically choose how big you want your blanket to be. First one stitch in your wrist, then pull the yarn through the stitch and move it next to the first one. You just keep knitting with your arms the same way from right to left and from left to right
Kuinka tämä siis tehdään? No käsivarsilla neuloen!
Knitting happens the same way it does when you do it with sticks, but this thing you don’t turn, you just keep knitting with your arms the same way. The yarn is so thick you can really see how the stitches are, and this was really easy to do, trust me. Just look that the stitches don’t go on spiral, that’s probably the only tiny thing to pay attention to. When you finish the yarn, hide the ends among the stitches. I knitted 2 kilos of yarn in this, it took me under one hour. I think it’s the perfect size! If you really want to imagine how the knitting looks like, you can watch a video on youtube, for example this one. And lastly: if I can do this, you can too. It was fun and easy, and I could have continued a lot longer than one hour. I might do another one in different color…
The yarn I ordered from online, a Finnish yarn shop, but you can basically google chunky yarn etc and you’ll find some options.
Paksusta langasta silmukat on todella helppo hahmottaa.
How do you like these chunky blankets? 🙂
Mitäs te pidätte näistä jättipeitoista? 🙂

En kestä, toi on niin ihana! Minnielle täydellinen pesä, Telma ainakin omisi viltin ihan omaksi paikakseen, haha. Saat tekemisen kuulostamaan kieltämättä helpolta, mutta epäilen ettei mun käsistä syntyisi tollasta ?
Marianna says
Kiitos ihana! ? Jep Minnie haluaa aina johonkin peittoon / tyynykasaan tehdä oman paikkansa.

And I kinda feel like I know you. It’s actually saddenes me that I will never meet you on daily basis cause I think we’d get along (fellow introvert;)

That’s so cool! I think you did a really cool job with it! And I wouldn’t usually correct, but as you mentioned your vocabulary on the sticks, in English we call them knitting needles, so they’re needles not sticks 🙂 Hope that helps! Excited to see more of your posts 😀
