I’ve been talking about wanting a dog for quite some time now. I’m a huge dog person and animal lover, and life without a dog just often feels like something is missing. Ever since our dog died in summer 2014, I’ve been thinking about getting my own. It was one of the most painful things ever – having to say goodbye to Nessu – but as I said, life without a dog is a struggle.
Yesterday I called to a puppy raiser, after noticing that there were newborn puppies in that certain dog breed I’ve been thinking about, and I felt so excited and sure about it. But I heard that just before my call the last puppy was reserved. Well that wasn’t a surprised, usually you should probably reserve the puppy already before it has born. But yeah, my parents were probably relieved. I know it’s a huge responsibility having a dog, and it will definitely change your life for possibly 15 years. If I’m now getting a dog I might have it when I’m 40 years old. That’s crazy, and that’s probably what keeps and have kept me going back and forth with making the decision. I’ve been trying to think about all the reasons why to not get a dog, and asked my dog owning friends all the bad sides and how owning a dog restricts you, but still, still I feel like I need a dog in my life. And I feel like now might be the right time, but then again it’s such a huge thing and life changer, that I can’t help feeling a bit scared. Oh but then again in a way I can’t imagine not being more certain with this, it’s just that always with big decision I hesitate, even though they’d be the best decisions I could ever make.
Bichon Havanese and Bichon Bolognese are the two breeds I’ve been thinking about. (On the picture above the upper row are Havanese puppies, and the down row Bolognese puppies.) Both are toy dogs, small sized and both have a fluffy coat. The coat needs lots of care though. Both breeds shouldn’t bark a lot and should be okay with living in the city in an apartment building. They’re friendly, smart, lively and get really attached to their owners. They don’t need as much exercise as many other dog breeds need, but still exercise is of course needed for all dogs. I live right near a park, and I could already see myself going for walks there… I spend a lot of time home compared to many people, since I’m mostly working from home, but I’m living alone and that’s another thing that scares me maybe. But I’d be ready for that, ready to compromise and plan more my travels and life because of a dog.
Is anyone of you living alone with a dog, and how are you doing with it? Or just any dog owners out there, to give me specific advices? Just wanting to hear all kind of thoughts about this!
Eli Bichonien turkki on tuttu juttu!
Onko teillä jollain kokemusta jommasta kummasta rodusta?

Hi
I’m living with my boyfriend and we recently adopted a Pomeranian. He’s been in living in terrible conditions and we’re still trying to solve all the mess that he came with. So besides the regular responsibilities we have to deal with much more. But at the same time I still think it was the best decision ever. Nothing can compare to that happy jumping creature welcoming you home every time you open the door after a long day at school/work. He gives us pure love. And so will yours puppy. It is of course important to have a great support of a family and friends you can turn to when dogsitting is necessary 🙂
But you should deffo go for it ! Its worth it. Its a huge responsibility, really costly as well but it pays off like nothing else <3
Marianna says
Aw Pomeranians are so cute! That sounds amazing, and you did an amazing thing! Oh I would so want that, that someone was waiting for me home, I’d love to spend time with a dog and just have a new family member 🙂 Thank you for the comment Simona! <3

🙂 Kiitos kommentista!

I got my little furball when I finished school – right between my finals. He is a poodle – bichon frisé mix and the cutest thing ever. It was love at first sight and after I visited him the first time, I knew the decision was made.
I made sure that I’m backed up – that I have my Mum, my sister and my grandparents who would help me when it gets a bit difficult (i.e. when going to vacation or returning back to college which I will do in two weeks) but that’s no problem as everyone is absolutely in love with him.
What should I say – right now, as I type this, he’s lying in my lap and cuddling with me. It was the best decision ever, there wasn’t one day when I wasn’t absolutely happy about the decision I made.
I’d just be careful from which breeder I buy. A lot of their dogs have defects in their DNA which causes a lot of vet visits and long bills. My grandparents have such a dog an although he’s a cutie, you always have to worry about him and don’t really know how old he’s going to be.
Marianna says
Your dog sounds so cute! Oh how much I’d want a dog right now laying with me on the couch. And that’s an important thing to remember, to be careful from which breeder to buy! Thank you so much for the great comment Stephanie!:)

We have a dog. He is a mix bread of 5 different breads. He has a bad temper. He don’t like new people or dogs and its hard because everybody and I mean EVERYBODY comes up to us and want to pet him and ask questions. Going away on trips is super hard for us just because we cant leave him with anybody. It needs to be a person that can handle if he gets mad because of a dog walking to close or something like that. Now I know that not all dogs are like this but its something to keep in mind.
If you want a dog I think you should get one. Just remember that all dogs no matter what size needs exercise. There is nothing saying that a Doberman needs more then a Papillon just because of the size. I work from home just like you but its not always the best thing because a dog need to learn to be alone as well. I think you already know all these stuff but when I took over Bonzo from my mam when she was moving to Finland I didn’t think that it was so much work as it is but for me its worth it.
If I where you I would talk to family/friends to make sure that if you are going away on a trip or something that they can take care of the dog. And getting a puppy cost a lot of money. Not only the puppy but the insurance and all the vaccine that it needs it first year.
Hope I don’t scare you with my text.
I think you will be an amazing dog owner so just go for it! 🙂
Marianna says
Oh, that sounds difficult! And yes all dogs of course need exercise and several daily walks, that’s something I learned already with our parents dog. I lived with a dog for 12 years, though I wasn’t responsible for it all by myself then. But those breeds really doesn’t need as much exercise as most breeds, because there definitely is differences in the required exercise for different breeds.
I think the most difficult thing for me would be traveling, though I know already that many of my friends have said that they could take care of it, but I know I’d still be probably worried about it.
Thank you for the good comment Dixi! 🙂

Half a year ago I accidentally got a cat because my friends couldn’t keep him anymore (I know this isn’t a dog but a pet in general). I’ve always wanted a cat but was afraid I’m traveling a lot, my apartment is too small for a cat and so on.
But this was a necessity and now I cannot imagine my life without him, I’m not gonna give him back even if my friends will be able to take him back. All the problems are solvable, and the happiness these little creatures give you are beyond all technical issues. (Except a cat poo, this smells so badly that wakes me up at night )
Marianna says
Oh everyone says the same, after getting a pet, that they couldn’t imagine a life without them anymore 🙂 I love that, and I know I’d be exactly the same. Haha, thanks for the comment Yana 🙂

Maltese is quite similar to the breeds I’ve been thinking about! 🙂 Sounds like you have a nice friend there, though a little loud 😀 Thanks for the comment Ivona!

Minulla on reilu neljä vuotias aika isokokoinen sekarotuinen koira, enkä kadu pätkääkään Rambon hankkimista.
Elämässä on enemmän rytmiä.

I was standing in your shoes last year. I’m just like you, I love animals. I’ve always dreamt of having my own dog living with me. Last year I understood that no timing is right for a decision like this. A decision that requires responsibility for another living creature for years. We always have things to do, learning, working, travelling, being busy, you know what I mean. We tend to postpone dreams for tomorrow. I realised that having a dog was my biggest dream for now and nothing else was more important. My parents thought I was crazy, some of my friends, too. Well, I knew exactly what I was doing and felt it was right. I started searching for my little puppy. A white and black french bulldog boy 🙂 It took me a month to find my puppy and another month waiting for him to be ready to leave his doggy mummy and come to my place. Waitining for him (after I found the right one!) was amazing, visiting the pet shop every day and getting all the equpiment. The moment I took him into my arms for the first time and realised that from now on I was going to be responsible for his life was pretty unusual, scary and serious. Definitely, my life has changed so much. I’m a better person and my life is complete. Having a dog has helped me a lot! Fred is my best friend and having him and seeing his wagging tail makes me happier than anything else! I can tell you that it was one of the best decisions in my life. Of course, having a dog is not all so sweet and pink. It means getting back home as quickly as you can and it means saying no to your colleagues who want to go and grab a bite after work. Cause your dog is waiting for you like nobody else in the entire world. It also means cleaning almost everyday cause fur is everywhere. But the worst thing for me is the feeling I get when Fred is home alone. I feel quilty and it gives me heartache. Still, having a dog is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I truly recommend it! It’s pure love! Happiness and lots of joy! Don’t hesitate anymore! 🙂
If you want to meet Fred here are a few photos from his 1st b-day 🙂

I’d really want to make that decision already! 🙂 Thank you so much for that Daria! x

finally, I can imagine you with a puppy so well!
Last year my mother finally agreed to take a puppy and since then it was the best decision ever made. My mom never wanted a dog, she said it was too much work. But right now she even cant think about life without our dog. And so cannot I. I would even say there is no one thing that I dont like about it. She is my best friend. She accepts me in every situation. She comforts me. She is sad and sick with me. She really means everything to me.
My dog breed is Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and hands down its the friendliest and kindest breed I know. She doesn’t need much care, she is small enough to go everywhere with you. And she really does want to go everywhere with you haha.
So I really recommend you to get a puppy, you will have a new best friend and theres really nothing bad about getting one!
Marianna says
Oh I can imagine, dog is like a family member, gives so much love and company. I keep imagining my possible future dog with me, when I go to walks in the morning or in the evening, when I go to sleep, and just every situation I keep imagining how I’d do everything if I had a dog. Thank you for the comment Ann! 🙂

I will probably sound terribly boring (bur I am 40, so I am aloud ). But think it through carefully. We have a dog but now we are living the family life with small kids and all that stuff that already “forces” us to be home. But my stepson who is 24 got himself a puppy. In many ways I can see it’s wonderful for him, but he can never go out with friends in the same way as all his friends does. He can never go away without thinking and planning. And what I mean with that is…. That kind of a more planning life Will come, the question is, will you have it already?
Because the day you get the dog, your life will change, you will Love it (and sometimes get extremely annoyed), you will care for it and you will change in your way of planning and doing stuff. And you will never regret that you decided to get the dog.
The question are, are you and your life ready for that now?
Marianna says
Thank you for the comment Karin! Yes, that’s definitely something I have to think really carefully. I spend a lot of time home, and I feel like living with a dog could be right kind of lifestyle for me. My parents keep saying that it will take away that certain freedom, exactly what you are talking about too, and I know what you mean… Still somehow I feel like it would be worth it. But yes, that’s something to really think about!
Emilie says
Hey Marianna!
I was 26 when I adopted my dog. It was one year ago and I understand you 100% when you say that the decision is such a hard one to take. I had been wanting a puppy since I was a kid and before finally taking the step, I had been thinking about it for almost 2 years, looking around and learning about the different breeds that could fit my temper and lifestyle.
My parents had always been against it because they said it was too much responsibilities, it would be too hard to travel and it takes a lot of time to take care of a little furball. As I was still a student, I had to deal with short money too. And of course, you have to take all those things in consideration before welcoming a dog home.
At the time, I wasnt feeling so good and I knew deep inside having a dog near me would help me get through it. So without warning my parents, I confirmed my decision to the dog raiser. One month later, I had my little Happy home!
I must say that it’s not easy everyday. Sometimes he can be hard to handle and when I have to deal with exams or deadlines, I really have to find the right balance between time for him and time for me. It’s quite a lot of money as well for the food, the vet, the toys. And sometimes, it can be hard to find the good person to look after him when I travel. BUT all those little downs are nothing compared to the happiness he brings into my life. He makes me smile every single day and since I have him by my side, I can feel I’m radiant. He’s now a part of the family and even though my parents didn’t like the idea at first, they couldn’t imagine a life without him around from time to time either.
So, my advice to you would be : if you feel deep inside you that your life would be better with a puppy, and if you payed attention to all the inconvenients, just make the step forward and adopt. I’m sure it would make you as happy as I am 🙂
Good luck!!

I completely understand growing up with animals and feeling empty without them in your life! When I got my own place after living on campus in college I immediately went and adopted a pet and it was wonderful. That pet is my absolute love! For dogs the only tough part is wanting to stay out late and having to come home to let the dog out.

I’m so dissapointed that You want to buy a dog instead of adopting one! There are so many sad and unwanted dogs in animal shelters and I’m sure they are as lovely as pedigree ones.
But I totally understand that You want to have a little puppy! 🙂 Just remember that he/she will be often home alone during Your meetings and stuff and it’s not the happiest thing to an animal… and You will have to have someone trusted to take care of the dog while You’ll travel but still… He/she will miss You very much 🙁

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Bichon Frisée hybrid, and I cannot imagine life without him. I got him four years ago and it seemed like everyone was trying to discourage me from getting one because it’s so much work, but I really wanted a dog. Yes, it is a lot of work, but only in the beginning, once they are potty trained and you have developed a routine, it’s easy. Leaving them to go on vacationis hard, but manageable. Having a dog is 100% worth it, they bring so much happiness and love to your life.

Hi Marianna,
I have 4 year old Bichon bolognese( exactly russion version, which is not white, bet beige with black ears:) and she is a love od my life.
I bought her when I was living with my ex,the only problem was when we broke up- i worked 9 hours a day and lived an hour away from work, which ment I couldn’t go anywhere right after work, I had to go directly home, which was a bit stressing, for a single girl:-)
BUT,this was the only problem, I’ve never regreted the decision to have her, realy, not even for a minute:-)
Anyway,as far as I understood, you live in a center,so it should be OK to stop at home a go for a walk, because the dog can stay at home for couple od hours alone, but not for 9, that was breaking my heart:-( my dog is a good girl, she never peed at home or so,but I hated leaving her alone. The situation is fixed,I have moved and have new flexible job:-)
The second and only obstacle could be the fact you travel a lot,but I’m sure your parents would baby-sit:-)
Overall,go for it- I had the same feeling couldn’t live without a dog, even though It’s more comfortable not to have one, from practical point od view,my heart was telling the truth,I would compare it to the decision of having a child- you don’t get enough sleep, you can’t travel that much..but you still want it so badly:-)
Love your blog, greetings from Czech republic

Kiitos :)!

Äääh, siihen on yksi sana UK. Säännöt ja hinnat on ihan tajuttomat eläimen lentäessä sinne vs paluu lento Suomeen. UK ei hyväksy eläimiä saapuvaksi lentoteitse muulla kuin rahtikoneilla, jolloin hinta nousee moniin satoihin. Jopa kaverin kissan lento Lontooseen tulee maksamaan reippaat 600-800 puntaa.. Koirani lentäessä matkustajakoneen ruumassa takaisin pätivät ns normihinnat, jolloin selvisin koko sotkusta 75 punnalla.
Muut EU maat vissiin vähän helpompia ja halvempia tämän suhteen, näin olen kuullut…

Moikka,

PARASTA<3

Ihana kommentti! <3 😀 No niinpä, oon kyllä 100% samaa mieltä.

Oikeastaan sinun pitää vain miettiä a) haluatko koiran?

Marianna you should get a dog, because I think you’ll be the most kinded dog owner 🙂
I live in Frankfurt and I have a dog too and im so happy about that. when im come home there is always my little love to say hello and when i leave for the uni there is also always a warm hearted goodbye. of course it is really hard sometimes, everday you need to go outside with your little friend, but on the other side this is a thing you should probably do with or without a dog. i live alone too and have a tiny apartment but for me and my dog it is okay because we will outside at least for one hour. of course it is more nice to have a big garden but anyways the dog will have so much love around you and you will get him outside, so this is really really important! dont worry about your holidays, your parents and friends can take him for that time – im pretty sure.
i really really just wanted to say you that you should get a dog and in my opinion you will be a great mommy with a lot of love for your little bear 🙂
Marianna says
That’s too kind of you! 🙂 That sounds so lovely, I really want one too, a new best friend and family member. And guess what, I just reserved a puppy, so I might have one already in November!!! I’m so excited, but oh these will be long weeks until that! 😀
Thank you again sweet Sophie!

Its true that you will have some limitations when you have a dog but mainly you just have to figure out how to combine all the responsabilities. I travel a lot and have both cat and a dog and its only complicated when you have to be away from home long time.
Also, have you considered adopting a dog from a shelter? There are so much small breed puppies that are looking for home 🙁
Books and Lilies says
I guess it depends on how much time do you spend at home. If you’re planning to travel frequently, than it’s better if you don’t get any pets. I have a dog and it breaks my heart when I have to leave her and it’s not like I travel a lot or go partying like crazy. You should look for what is best for the dog. Good luck with anything you decide!
Louisa says
Hey Marianna,
you could also consider adopting an older dog!!
My parents just recently adopted an 8 year old dog,her owner passed away. She is so sweet.

Marianna I think you think way too much! I was at the exactly the same point where you are now- wondering, thinking, asking etc. Then it all happen quite of a sudden and I ended up being an owner of two (!) beagles (!!!). They are totally crazy, they are like a tornado. Sometimes it is so difficult to cope with them, but taking them was the best decision of my life and I regret only one thing- that I was wondering so long, while I could have had my girls much earlier ;))

Hahah that comment got me laughing. I can imagine saying the same thing after getting a dog – that it will be the best decision ever. Thank you so much for that Kasia! x

Jännittää, kuulin just että eräs pentue syntyy kahden viikon päästä… 🙂
Elisa says

Joanna says
Pidän peukut pystyssä sulle! Eiköhän kaikki hyvin mene 🙂
Meidän pennusta tosiaan tuli kasvaessaan jännän tricolor värinen (muistuttaa mini berninpaimenkoiraa), kaikki aina ihmettelee minkä rotuinen tyttö on 😀

Have you thought about adopting? There’s so many little pups out there without homes and ones that need loving owners, it might make your decision a little easier if you know you are doing a great deed and taking on a pup that really needs someone as loving as you? You could rescue him/her from the shelter/home and give them such a lovely home. Dogs are a huge commitment in that you need someone at home with them at some parts of the day, so travel could be an issue unless you have a friend who can take care of them, but the companionship and unconditional love they give you is definitely something everyone needs. I don’t have a dog, but I have cats and I can’t be without them.

Hey Marianna ! I don’t have a dog but I have a cat. obviously, it is more responsability, but I never regretted it ! I am really close of my cat, so I think it could a stronger relationship with a dog. And, as you are living alone, as I am, it is really nice to get puppy’s hugs in the morning. For holidays, I asp my parents and friends to take care of him, if I’m going Away. Hope you’ll have one !
Love your blog !

I have a dog since 8 years in my apartment in vienna and I work with dogs in science. I would not reccomend you to a purebred dog, it is not true that every subject of a certin kind of breed does not bark, you will never know. Small dogs do often bark. Also it is not true, that small dogs need less exercise. You can have a Seint bernhard who needs less exercise than a Jack Russel Terrier. Furthermore you will have many problems with the health of a purebred dog, they are incredibly suceptible for many diseases. You wont have such big problems with mixed breeds. Thats the reason why it is always the best to adopt a dog from a local shelter! 😉 Xoxo

I also live alone with my little malteser for 5 months now after my mom moved because of her work.
I have to admit that it’s quite a piece of work to manage his needs between studying, working and social life. Some days are very stressfull, because i’m not the person who leaves her furry friend alone for too many hours and i neither want him to wait outside the supermarket or so (here in germany dogs arent allowed in all the shops). So i am stepping in and out of the apartment several times a day sometimes.
But i also have my boyfriend, grandparents and friends who are always happy to take him for a day or so, if something’s up.
But i just love waking up to him, playing and being in the woods and always on the move. He gives me so much joy, no matter what! He just makes me smile – always!
I can only agree with you that being without a dog is strange and it always feels like something is missing..
So if you think you can put your own needs a little aside sometimes and if you fall in love with a pupp, i would say do it. You wont regret it anyway 🙂
Lots of love from jessie and ruby 🙂

I have a Westie and it’s the best decision I’ve ever taken. His name is Oliver, he’s 17 months old and he is so adorable and warm and nice that it’s almost unbelievable he is a dog. I’m very happy with the decision I took last year when I bought it. Don’t over think it. Buy it now! hahaha

Hey Marianna! I completely agree with you, dogs are wonderful – I’m a huge dog person, myself, and I’ve always grown up with them. I know how hard it is to say goodbye to a beloved dog – I had to say goodbye to my spaniel, Heidi, last May, so I know how awful it must have been for you say goodbye to Nessu.
The most important thing to consider when getting a dog is… Are you ready? Can you offer him or her time and affection? I’m sure he last one won’t be a problem! I think you should be fine and, if you do decide to take the plunge, you won’t regret it. Owning a dog is one of the most rewarding and enriching things a person can do. Me and my mum now have another Spaniel, Ruby, and she’s a handful! First day we got her, she was sick in my boyfriend’s can and peed all over the sofa..
Good luck! X

I live alone with three large breed dogs but I also own my house. It is a lot of work even just owning 1 dog. You have to commit a lot of your time with them with training, exercising, and just giving them a lot of attention each day. With a puppy, you have to feed them three times a day- morning, noon, and afternoon. And with puppies, especially small breeds, you have to have someone taking them to go potty throughout the day. You will also have to be willing to commit on passing up on trips, going out as much, etc. And then you have to make sure you are financially stable to take care of a dog, provide all of his or her needs, and be prepared in case they end up having to be on multiple expensive prescriptions the rest of their life, needing to go to physical therapy, and/ or having to have expensive surgeries. While owning a dog is extremely rewarding, you need to really think about if you are 100% able to provide and care for a dog, if you are financially able to care for a dog and whatever unexpected financial needs the dog may have, and if you are willing to give up a lot of things.

Hey, you should check out at wolfgang2242 account on instagram. The guy has something like nine dogs, a pig, a duck, a rabbit and a chicket at his house. All of them except his first dog, the irish hound, were adopted. His photos are the cuttest.
I had a dog as a kid, we bought a puppy. Today I would take a dog from a shelter but, yep, the resposobility is too much at this point, I don’t know if I am going to move abroad. However, if there will be circumstances that I would meet ‘eye to eye’ with a doggie in need that would make a connection with me and vice versa, I would take up the responsibility and adjust my plans.

Hei Marianna!

Meiltä löytyy kaksi koiraa, joista toinen on juurikin bolognese.

It is so so so exciting you are planning on getting a pup! It is important to remember they are family members, not just pets <3 I am sure you will be a wonderful doggie mama. We are hoping to get a puppy next year and I am considering doggie adoption <3

Moikka!
Mun vanhemmilla on kolme Bichon Havanesea ja voi kuinka ihania pikku söpöläisiä he ovatkaan.<3 Kaikki kolme luonteeltaan täysin erilaisia, mutta yhdistävänä tekijänä ainakin seurallisuus ja totta tosiaan kiintyvät omistajaansa. Sopivat mielestäni hyvin kerrostaloonkin asustelemaan. Tulikin tässä kommentoidessa hirmunen ikävä pikku palleroita.

Hi,
I had similar problem when I had to make decision about getting a cat. At first I lived on my own, then my BF moved in. We both wanted to have an animal but we both working mainly outside the home. There were many disadvantages, too many of them…for example: our partents live about 150km away from us, we try to visit them as often as possible, we had doubts about cat travelling with us. What is more, we do not own flat yet, we rent rather small one in a city center. I spoke with many people who own a cat and they told me what are the main advantages and disadvantages of having a cat. But all of them have cats that spend all of their time in home, they do not take them to another places and they travel with them only to a vet appointment. I contacted with cat breeder, I told her about all of our doubts- she told me that my doubts are irrational because she believe that I will be able to provide kitty with all necessary things and first of all- with big dose of love. She invited me to her cattery and I felt in love. I was interested in a Siberian cat, I read many articles about them but when I met them in cattery I was 100% sure I need to have one in my life.
Even though majority of our relatives were against us having a cat we made the decision… We reserved a kitty before she was even born! I wanted to have a female cat. We were waiting, finally our little kitty was born but… she died after a few days because of some virus disease, only 2 boys survived. I was so sad, I never met this little girl but I was planning to reorganize my life for her and she died. We got proposition- we could wait for another litter to be born or we can reserve brother of our little girl. He was also very sick, we decided to reserve him but I had a lot of doubts, I saw him- he was in a very poor condition, he was depressed and tiny. Finally the second litter was born, we waited about 2 months, brother of our girl was still very sick, cat breeder advised us to get a boy from new litter as she knew that we had a lot of doubts. All in all, we decided to get a boy from new litter, he is now 5 months old and I cannot imagine life without him. He is absolutely amazing. He loves to travel with us in a car, each weekend we take him for a walk in a forest, he walks on a leash as a dog. What is more, I take him with me to all of my relatives, he is not afraid of new places at all which seems to be unnatural for a cat. He acts as a dog in a cat skin.
So, don’t be afraid of such decision, it is hard at the beginning, later you will be happy:-)
Ohh- I forgot- all of our relatives that were against us having a cat now love him 🙂

I also forgot to tell you that my mom and I had a dog for 11 years. He passed away in May, it was heartbreaking. My mom told me that she lost her best friend, now she enjoys having me and my cat staying over the weekends in her house.
I read previous comments, many people were pointing time. Let me tell you something- my mom is working outside the home, she was away for more than 8 hours per day. Our dog was happy, he was used to be in home alone. Each time after my mom came back to home he was acting like her shadow but he was happy.
I have comparison between having a dog and having a cat- for me having a cat requires less commitment. Of course cat does need a lot of attention and love but he has his own cuvette and I does not need to be worried about taking him for a walk. On the second hand, dog is more devoted to his owner, even though my cat is loving, he is an individualist:-)
I’m more cat lover than dog lover so it is only my point of view. Still- I believe that decision of having a dog/a cat is hard only at the beginning. Having an animal will give you a lot of happiness:-)

After I moved out of my parents home and into a small apartment by myself, I couldn’t wait to get a puppy of my own (my parents had 2 dogs). I picked out a Papillon, but my boyfriend convinced by to get a French Bulldog. Best decision of my life! I could not imagine life without a dog. Some people would think its inconvenient to have a dog in an apartment without a yard, because you have to take them for multiple walks per day, but I enjoyed every minute of it (even in Canada’s winters). Puppies are a lot more work than an older dog, but it gives you to chance to make sure your puppy is raised right. The only issue from there onward is the temptation to get another! You won’t regret your puppy – no way. Congrats!
